I played a Roland TD-20 for years and have played many brands, and I find the Alesis to be a nice compromise between the cheap kits that are nothing more than plastic and rubber pads, and, high-end kits like Roland offers. This Alesis kit has similar capabilities and the price tag is much easier on the wallet than a Roland kit. The mesh heads and the drum shells give the kit more of the look and feel of an acoustic set. I find the triggers to be very responsive and the drum brain, although perhaps not as user-friendly as the Roland, has many of the same functions. So if you want a good quality kit that gives you a lot of options with some common features as the Roland without the Roland price tag, then Alesis is for you!
