Made famous by Ringo Starr of The Beatles, Ludwig’s Downbeat in Oyster Black Pearl is one of the most iconic drum sets of all time. The 20″, 14″, 12 sizes are versatile–small enough for jazz but large enough for rock. The 3-ply maple/poplar/mah0gany shells with roundover bearing edges produce a warm, round sound and the maple inner ply (as opposed to mah0gany from Ludwig’s earlier years) adds a little to their projection. This kit gives a timeless look and sound that work well for so many playing styles. Don’t miss out! Please note this kit is a re-wrap and rehabilitation project of a black diamond pearl kit that I found with most of its wrap peeled off already. Brand new wrap from Jammin Sam. Excellent hardware; all original hardware except for a new Canopus baseball bat muffler. Very good shell; original bearing edges, fresh coat of color-matched white paint, some pieces of the mah0gany outer ply had been peeled off when I found it–likely when the previous owner removed the old wrap, the wrap covers it up and it does not affect sound nor tuning. Excellent heads; new Remo Ambassador coated batter and Yamaha single-ply clear resonant. Excellent hardware; all original except for a 1980s Ludwig triple-flanged hoop on one side. Very good shell; original bearing edges, fresh coat of color-matched white paint, minor ply separation repaired with wood glue and clamps, slightly untrue bearing edges which is typical for Ludwigs of this age and can be fixed if you want to do that. Very good heads; new Remo Ambassador coated batter and Evans Genera Resonant. Brand new wrap from Jammin Sam on drum and hoops. Excellent hardware; all original besides lug screws visible only from the interior of the drum. Very good shell; original bearing edges, fresh coat of color-matched white paint.
