If you want a drum that can play soft, and then VERY loud, without choking, check out this Enhanced Dyna-Sonic style drum, I have loved. The thicker steel shell transmits a lot more of the sound energy to the bottom head and out of the drum. The shell was machined from 1 thick seamless pipe. The shell is shaped similar to Keplinger shells but with no welded seams.
