These are extremely well made and incredible sounding solid maple drums, especially the 24 kick drum. American made for Peavey’s entry into the high end drum market, they were pricey and unique, expensive to manufacture and probably unable to overcome Peavey’s mid-level reputation, so they never caught on. Walking into the old Sam Ash drum shop on 48th Street NYC, someone was playing the best sounding bass drum I’d ever heard. When I asked the manager, the late Rich Teeter (formerly of The Dictators), to point out what I was hearing, I was put off because… Well, they were made by Peavey. But I never forgot that sound. I later started hunting for used kits and was delighted to find two in excellent condition. I’ve never toured with them, except for one local gig. They’ve only been used in NYC’s major recording studios and my home studio. The shells are very thin which makes the drums responsive, resonate & live. It’s very easy to dial in a tuning that has a defined fundamental that works across the spectrum, high or low. The matching snare is the opposite shell style- a thick butcher block style which sounds great tuned up, reminiscent of an early Brady snare. One of the original strainers has been replaced with a Pearl unit, and there are two holes that have been filled in professionally that aren’t noticeable on the exterior. Sizes: 24″x 20″ kick, 10″, 12″, 2 x 14″, 16″ toms, 14″x 6.5″ snare. All toms come with the factory RIMS mounts. There’s some minor tom rash on the kick and on the 16 tom, but these drums are in excellent condition. A minor amount of pitting on the chrome that could be improved with elbow grease. One screw on a bass drum spur is not stock. The heads are intact and playable. The kick has a SBK case, the 16″, one 14″, and the 10″ toms have fibre cases (I might have another 14″ fibre case).
