This is a rare 1964-65 3 piece Ludwig Downbeat drum kit finished in the original black oyster pearl wrap. The sizes of the drums are 12″ tom, 14″ floor tom, and 20 bass drum. This golden era of drum building kit is one of the most sought after ever, due to Ringo and the Beatles playing the exact same configuration when they first came to America, and the Ed Sullivan Theater. The wrap on the 3 drums is in excellent condition, with a few very minor scratches and small rash area. The drums are in round, and sound amazing. There are Remo Coated Ambassadors on top. The 12 tom features a clear interior, and baseball bat muffler and original red felt damper, both in excellent condition. The rims and chrome have very slight pitting here and there. The serial number is 42267, which dates it at 1964. The 14 floor tom also. Features a clear interior, and baseball bat muffler and original red felt damper, both in excellent condition. The serial number is 121260, which dates it at 1965. The 20 bass drum has a clear interior, glossy wrap, and hardware with very minimal issues. The serial number is 46765, dating it to 1964. Issue with the bass drum is the 1/2 wrap in the middle of the wood hoop on batter side is a newer black oyster wrap, and not original. I bought this kit about 25 years ago, and I believe the original owner might have bought the 12″ tom and 20″ bass drum together in 1964, and the next year picked up the 14 floor tom. The floor tom has a slightly different pattern than the other drums, and a little more iridescence. This highly desirable rare Beatles Ludwig Downbeat 3 piece drum kit would make a fantastic addition to any vintage drum collection!
