MAY 21-22 1965 / 1966 (Jazz Fest). 12 / Jazz Festival Snare / 14 / 20. / 163325 / 170219. MAY 22 1965 / 1966 / MAY 22 1965 / MAY 21 1965. All pieces predate the hyper-production years of Ludwig prior to Ringo/The Beatles. Within a relatively short period of time Ludwig amped up production to meet increasing demand. As Ludwig collectors know, once this happened Ludwig’s attention to detail flew out the window. There is a premium on these early year Ludwigs, not only for the obvious connection to Ringo, but because Ludwig’s quality control measures were markedly better. The wrap has EXTREMELY LIGHT to NO fade/darkening. ALL PIECES ARE IN COLLECTOR CONDITION. I HAVE FULLY DETAILED A NUMBER OF 60’S KITS LIKE THIS, BUT NONE QUITE IN THIS EXCEPTIONALLY FINE CONDITION. The kit holds all the points for Ringo’s #2 kit MINUS those for the 1966 JAZZ FESTIVAL snare for those who don’t know, a RINGO JF snare is a pre-serial 5 1/2 depth snare w/ the muffler/badge/throw panel configuration… These are few and far between. The hardware has been cleaned & polished with Simichrome polish and MUCH OF IT IS IN NEAR-MINT TO MINT CONDITION. The wrap has been polished with NOVUS 1 & 2 and it is extremely smooth with a few very light scratches but is IN OVERALL NEAR-MINT TO MINT CONDITION. BEARING EDGES ARE CLEAN AND THE SHELLS ARE IN THE ROUND. THE WRAPS FOLLOW THE SEAMS INTO THE SCARF JOINTS. The 12/14/20 came together and the dates are separated by 1 day. The Jazz Fest is 1966. 8×12 RACK TOM #165038 MAY 22 1965. As stated above, the drum is in NEAR-MINT TO MINT CONDITION. The COB hoops show extremely light wear. Original Ludwig heads : reso in VG+ / batter in G+ condition. 5 (5 1/4)x14 JAZZ FESTIVAL SNARE DRUM # 105288 1966. The wrap has EXTREMELY LIGHT TO ZERO fade/darkening (I have 14 photos with all hardware removed – message me if you’d like to see them). Bearing edges are clean & the drum is in the round. THE WRAP FOLLOWS THE SEAM INTO THE SCARF JOINT. The date stamp is still there but smudged. Chrome (COS) has been. Cleaned & polished with Simichrome polish. Hardware is in VERY GOOD+ TO EXCELLENT condition. There are 2 lugs with small areas of chrome loss on the bottoms; 1-2 lugs have what looks like small imperfections that happened during chroming process??? The top hoop has area of scratching in 1 area from rubbing against tom; bottom hoop has what appears an imperfection. HAVING NOTED ALL OF THIS THE HARDWARE IS STILL IN VERY GOOD+ TO EXCELLENT CONDITION. The wrap has been polished with NOVUS 1 & 2 and it is extremely smooth. A few light scratches and nicks remain that couldn’t be buffed out. Original Ludwig Resonant + Batter heads in used condition. Original snare wires in excellent condition. The Ludwig plush red tweed case is in very good to excellent vintage condition (contact if you’d like more photos). 14X14 FLOOR TOM #163325 MAY 22 1965. NEAR-MINT TO MINT CONDITION. The legs appear to be custom as they are slightly longer than even the typical long Ludwig legs (and out of the entire kit the legs show the most wear due to this length as the legs have been tightened below the knurled portions). There is some scratches inside the tom that appear to be from a cat? No idea what it’s from see last photo. Original Ludwig heads : reso in EXCELLENT / batter in VG+ condition. 14X20 BASS DRUM #170219 MAY 21 1965. The tab on the tom mount selector has been worn down a bit. The hoops have not been touched up as they are in excellent condition and there is not much to be done in that regard. Original Ludwig heads in EXCELLENT condition. There’s a felt pad on batter head that will be left on the head. Picture a fair percentage of my listings as boutique. In other words : they are not for the average cat. There is no comment box where you can read any of the experiences buyers have had with me on REVERB you can leave lengthy feedback… And some have, lengthily + glowingly.
