This 50s/60s Round Badge drum set is a refurbed and refinished orphan kit. Bass drum is late 50s, the rest are mid-60s drums. Sizes are 8×12, 16×16, 14×22 and 4×14 Progressive Jazz snare. Finish is green paint and lacquer, Cadillac Green-style. Condition and restoration work varies by drum. 8×12: All original parts, tag, badge and edges. Has two small holes from a Ludwig 1216 mount, concealed under the diamond plate. 16×16: This shell has some low spots from sloppy sanding done in the past. Not obvious after painting it. Repro badge and tack. Bottom rim is heavily pitted and had to be cleaned up with steel wool so there is some scratching. Legs are vintage Ludwig. 14×22: Four small extra holes plugged on top. Some small nicks in resonant bearing edge. Both cymbal arm brackets are original to the drum. One has a stripped casting. Rail mount is clean and works well with a long repro spade. Hoops are original with inlays cut from a 50s gold sparkle drum. 4×14 snare: this is a later Progressive Jazz snare, not a Max Roach model, which means it’s actually a 4.25×14-inch shell. Numerous small extra holes plugged from aftermarket strainer and butt plates in the past. Repro arm on an original Microsensitive. Top bearing edge has been professionally recut. Top rim is from a later Gretsch drum. All mufflers are present and working. All shells were originally wrapped, and the paint/lacquer finish means they fit modern heads easily. They also tune up quickly, and are super forgiving and easy to get great sounds from. They have that great pre-EQ’d Gretsch sound with no fuss. More photos available on request.
