Here’s a beautiful, circa 1978 Ludwig shell pack in hard-to-find Green Vistalite. Blue/Olive pointy-edge badges in the 17xxxxx range date this kit to approximately 1978. This kit is original and is not pieced together: three of the serial numbers are within 30 digits of each other; the fourth drum is only 400 digits apart. All drums show minor signs of wear consistent with 40+ years of gentle use. The most serious scratches/scuffs are identified below and are shown in the photos. Here’s what you get. Legs are the long version (23 1/4). There is a vertical scratch 9 long from the bottom of the shell towards the middle. It is not a crack. There’s also a gouge approximately 1/4 wide that partially touches the bottom bearing edge. Both of these are visible in the same closeup photo. There are a couple minor abrasions where a tom rubbed against the shell. Both are visible in closeups. Long tom post (22 1/2). It is not original to this kit and may have come from a timbale or other percussion stand. The shaft is drilled every 1.5 inches. It works perfectly fine with this kit and has the full, smooth range of adjustment. Some of the photos show that one of the curved arc spurs is shorter than the other. You will receive two spurs of the correct length. All heads appear to be original with the kit. All rims and hoops are original. No rust or pitting on the rims. I have repainted the hoops and they look great. However, the inlay is brittle and there is a gap at the seam as shown in closeup. Position a tee/claw over the gap and no one will ever see it. Were missing and I replaced them with correct Ludwig vintage parts. Some have corrosion and pitting. Not all tension rods are original. All in all, a rare vintage kit and priced to sell! I pack securely, even obsessive-compulsively. Since these are acrylic shells, I will go over the top with caution.
