Beautiful and amazing sounding v. Intage 1968 Ludwig Downbeat 20/12/14. In a custom mahogany finish. This set is in very good vintage condition, with expected wear for a drum set of this age. The 20×14 bass drum has an Evans EQ3 clear batter head (with a piece of non-residue gaffers tape in the batter strike area) and an Evans 2 ply smooth white resonant head with classic Ludwig logo. The 12×8 and 14×14 toms have Remo coated ambassador batters and clear ambassador bottoms, all used but with plenty of life left in them. Ludwig diamond plate mount was installed that would generally hold 2 toms instead of the stock single rail consolette mount. The new single tom post that holds one drum is made by Ludwig. Both mufflers in each tom is intact and working well, no rattling as a few drops of epoxy were put between the pad disc and its support arm. These mufflers almost always rattle but not the ones on this set. Most take them off but since they are a stock part of the set I left them installed, and come out easily if you choose to do so. The finish was done by a previous owner and has normal use and wear marks, etc. These drums are special – how many natural outer ply kits with clear interiors do you see? These drums were never wrapped, they were natural maple from the factory, but were refinished by the prior owner. Yes they have “that” mojo sound. Not only do they sing and project but these first-year clear interior 3 ply shells have a natural non-deadening outer finish allowing for a wider tuning range, while providing the pop and response we all know Ludwig shells are famous for.
