The shells are mostly Ludwig AC and Pearl EX shells with custom overwraps. Before I get into a description of their condition and features, I want to say first that this set has been very well kept and maintained. It has had its own room the entire time Ive had it and was never used as a traveling or preforming set. Meaning that it has not seen anywhere near the amount of wear as a normal set of its age. Every couple of years the configuration would change as new pieces were added but otherwise it never moved for anything but maintenance and cleaning. As expected, the shells are the most highly customized part of the set. Theres a lot going on with them as far as features go and will take a bit to explain. They have custom made, one of a kind, space themed shell overwraps. The overwraps can be removed to be easily replaced with new ones for a different look. All drums are originally stock black. To add the overwraps the original logo badges had to be removed and I no longer have them. They can be reverted back to the stock black finish as well. The cost of the shell wraps on it now are not being factored into the asking price at all. All but the two smallest snare drums have matched lugs sets. The core of the set was the Ludwig AC 22, 16, 13, 12 combo which used Gretsch style lugs at the time. So, all of the others were matched with the Gretsch lugs. The Pearl bass had to have one of each of the mounting holes plugged and moved to fit the new lugs. The bass drums have the large 2 lugs, 12 18 toms have the standard 1.5 lugs and the snare has double ended 2 lugs. The 8 and 10 toms have the very hard to find 1 Gretsch lugs. These are found almost exclusively on the Ludwig Catalina sets and have to be ordered directly from the factory or from a music shop (who will order them after they charge you double for them). They all have removable chrome air vent grommets instead of the original brass rivet type. The drum heads listed with the shells are all in excellent to like new condition, with zero dents or wear through on the finish. Nearly all of them are professional quality heads. The heads included will not need to be changed for a very long time. Other than the Pearl bass, the only shells that were modified are the piccolo snare that has an added internal dampener, and the 14 tom which was originally a floor tom but was converted to be held by a claw stand or rack mount. The Latin Percussion Mini Timbales are in excellent condition. The shell wraps on them can be easily slid off and on if you prefer the original chrome finish just by removing the hardware. The Roto toms are a GP set, basically a generic set but not far in quality from a Remo set that would cost at least twice as much. As you can see in the photos, all of the cymbals have had their logos removed to give a uniform look. Most have their stamped logos or other identifiers to confirm the listed types and brands. Out of the higher end cymbals the only one lacking a stamped logo is the Zildjian 20 ZBT ride cymbal. ZBTs are a line of bronze alloy cymbals that Zildjian has discontinued and replaced with the newer Series I line. Unfortunately, it is also the only cymbal out of the lot with heavy scratches near the bell that cannot be polished out. Youll find that the cymbals in this lot range from low end trash cymbals to mid-high level professional brand and series cymbals. I rarely get rid of cymbals because I like to experiment with making stackers and other effects with the trash cymbals. So, when you see trash cymbal next to one in the list, it doesnt mean that the cymbal is completely trashed or a throw away cymbal. Just that its a cheap, thin cymbal mostly good for stackers and effects. There are 2 small thrash cymbals not included in the list of cymbals that could be throw away cymbals mixed in with the spare parts that are included with the set. The majority of them though are quality brand cymbals (Zildjian, Sabian, Paste, Pearl, Verve, Wuhan). The Verve cymbal is a rarity and, deceptive from its looks, the most valuable and hard to find cymbal in the set. Its a handmade ultra-thin 16 crash that is in excellent condition. By far my favorite sounding cymbal of them all, it has a very loud and sustained thin gong like sound that I have not found in any other cymbal in over 30 years of playing the drums. Its a high-quality cymbal and can stand up to normal play, but high quality or not its a very thin cymbal that can be damaged by improper playing. For the rest of them you can expect the conditions to mostly range from very good to excellent, only short of like new because of the removed logos. Some of the thin trash cymbals have the expected minor cracks near the bell and dents on the edge. Most of the stands and mounts included are Ludwig, Pear and Gibraltar. Nearly all are in excellent to like new condition and have been very well kept. Some of the older unbranded stands have minor condition issues but the rest are in above average condition for their age. The Ludwig Hi Hat stand was converted to a legless hat stand and there is a mounting bracket included that attaches it to the bass hoop for support. The two main pedals for this set are extremely rare Duallist first generation double and triple kick pedals. Both are in excellent fully functional condition, far above the condition youll normally find them in used (when you can find one that is). These are another rare item and many drummers have never even heard of them. The Duallist pedals are one of only a few types of dual-action kick pedals available. The only others I know of are the Sonor Giant Step Twin and the Drum-Tec DP921. The Duallist pedals work differently from those and as far as I know are the only of their kind. Where the other two require a heel-toe method to achieve the single foot dual-action effect, the Duallist are an automatic return strike that stays in time with the up and down strike/speed of a single foot kick. They also have a foot switch on each side that allows them to be quickly changed from the standard single-action to the dual-action effect and back. The right switch releases the secondary mallet and the left switch locks it back in place. It takes some practice to get familiar with the dual-action play but is worth the effort. The triple kick feature is exclusive to Duallist kick pedals. It allows for a second pedal to be attached that controls a third bass mallet. Allowing for three pedals to play on a single bass drum and can produce unique base patterns and effortless bass triplets. The three-mallet option can be removed for double bass kits like this to allow for a quad-action bass effect. This is by far the most unique feature of the set. The set comes with several smaller accessories, clamps and mounts that give a very wide range of options for configurations. Along with some neat noise makers and other attachments. As with the majority of the set, most of them are in excellent condition or better. Also included with the set is a large assortment of sticks, hardware and other parts. Theres an incomplete Tama Stagestar set included as well. I got it for some of the stands and the 18 bass drum shell. There are four Tama shells and the matching hoops, but the hardware set for it is incomplete. I have the original legs and mounting gear but no lugs or heads. The shells are dark blue and in excellent condition. Everything else is just the normal items youd find with a set this size. Felts, cymbal sleeves and wingnuts, tuning gels and devices, spare bass mallets, snares, tension rods, swivel nuts, etc. Also included but not in the list is a small box of random spare parts like springs, thumbscrews, snare straps and other small items.
