DW Collector’s Series 14 piece in Rally Stripe wrap. With matching everything: snare, subwoofers, rata toms. Yes, the picture above is real, not a dream. I can say this is probably the most amazing DW Collector’s drum set I’ve ever seen. I think it’s truly hard to find a DW drum set that has this many drums. The drum set came originally as an 8 piece Keller from 1997 (without the subwoofers and the rata toms). Then the subwoofers and the ratatoms were custom ordered as well, and then the whole drum set was professionally re-wrapped to match. The subwoofers have the mounting brackets with the poles to attach to the bass drum. I have to specify this as not every woofer comes with the mounting poles. The ratatoms are not DW, as I believe DW doesn’t make them. But then all the DW hardware and badges were added, so it looks exactly as they should to match the rest of the set. They sound amazing, you wouldn’t tell the quality is any different. There is a small chip inside one of the ratatoms (pictured below). Does not affect in any way the sound. The wrap is in 9/10 condition. I really couldn’t find any real scratches that would show in pictures. I took very good HD pics that you can see if you scroll down. There are no air bubbles from the re-wrapping. It does not look 10/10 because they are almost 20 years old, but it looks a solid 9/10. Be ready to get every compliment about this set. These sliding mounts where removed before wrapping to make the bass drum “virgin” style. The holes are still there, but now covered by the wrap. This is actually good, as it gives you the option of leaving it virgin as it is, or install the sliding mounts again if you wish. I’m including one of the sliding mounts. The other one was lost. 14×11 floor tom (floating) “C”. 16×13 floor tom (floating) “G”. 14×5.5 snare drum “B”. 22×18 bass drum “C#”. SUMMARY: This kit would be impossible to get in a store. Special kits like this would need to be ordered to DW. This set is not for everyone, but whoever gets it will be a very happy drummer. 8” AND 10” TOMS. 12” TOM AND 14” FLOOR TOM. 16” FLOOR TOM AND 14 SNARE. 22X18” AND 22X8” BASS. 6X10, X12, X14, X16” RATATOMS. Savoie Glow Drums – RCI White Acrylic Shells. 5 x 14 snare. There is a lot to learn about this drum set. The first thing that you need to know is that this is not a gimmick “glow” kit. This is a very serious, high-end, incredible sounding drum kit. This drum kit starts with RCI White Acrylic Shells. RCI simply makes the best sounding acrylic shells. The acrylic and acrylic welding technique matters a lot. RCI uses American made Cell Cast Acrylic for their shells. They have developed an acrylic welding technique that is Patent Pending. This part of the equation is incredibly important. Acrylic is available as Cell Cast, Extruded or Injection molded. This is as different to the sound as maple, birch and poplar. The technique in building the shells is as important as the technique is with wood. Acrylic can get a bad rap as a drum material due to lesser quality shells. Acrylic is getting more popular lately, so several drum companies are importing injection molded (seamless) shells. Their tone and tuneability is limited. They have a reputation of sounding “boingy” sound. RCI Cell Cast Acrylic shells are 1/4 thick and have a warm tone with lots of depth. They can be tuned low, high or anywhere in between. They react very well to different heads. They are an exceptionally versatile shell. Acrylic became very popular in the 70’s and the Ludwig Vistalite drums sound amazing. They reason they went out of favor is because Acrylic became too expensive. My point is this. They are very expensive shells! I used High Density RGB LED Lighting which offers better color options than standard LED Lights. The shells glow with vivid color that even my high Definition camera can not capture. The settings are controlled by a remote control or you can hook up the system to an existing band’s light system. The lighting system is very versatile with several options for solid colors, fades and flashes. You can control the brightness for the lighting as well as the speed of the fades and flashes. You can pause the fades to capture the exact color you want. I often connected the drums to my bands LED light controller (DMX Controller) so the drums changed along with the band lights. The drums look amazing on stage! The connections are fast and easy. It only takes a few minutes to connect all the drums at a show. The black vinyl racing stripes are no adhesive vinyl. They were attached to the acrylic with a mist of water. They will not come off on their own; however, they would be very easy to remove with a hair dryer if desired. I chose Yamaha hardware for several reasons. These quick release lugs make it incredibly quick and easy to change heads. You simply lossen the tension rods and the lugs come of the shell without needing to completely remove the tension rods. The lugs are black, which looks perfect with this drum kit. Yamaha Enhanced Sustain System – YESS. The secret of our YESS system is twofold: First, it provides minimum contact of hardware with shell; second, it connects that hardware at the nodal point of the drum – the point at which it will not interfere with shell vibration. Nylon bushings on rod clamps afford maximum stability. The YESS system permits toms to be placed close together, and does not interfere with quick head changes. Ball Mount & Clamp. A tribute to Yamaha design technology, our original ball mount and clamp has gone through very few modifications over the years. A large, ultra-hard resin ball sits in an attractive chromed housing, held in place with a titanium ergonomic wing bolt. It is the ultimate drummer-friendly mount, offering non-slip positioning virtually anywhere the drummer can imagine. Additionally, it permits tuning of the bottom head by simply rotating the drum.
