Slingerland 8 x 12 Rack Tom (depth x diameter) Sparkling Gold Pearl Wrap, Early 1970’s Niles Era. THE LISTING IS FOR THE DRUM SHELL AND HARDWARE INSTALLED ONLY. NO HOOPS, TENSION RODS OR DRUM HEADS. The Gold Sparkling Pearl Wrap on the shell has a nice appearance with only slight fading from the original gold color. (see pictures 13, 14 and 15 showing the drum shell w/ no hardware installed). The original wrap is tight along the edges and the main vertical seam. A drumhead rests flat and spins smoothly on both top/batter and bottom/resonant sides. BLACK and SILVER BADGE #837xx. (circa early 1970’s) The shell is 3 ply mahogany, poplar, maple w/ maple re-rings. The interior looks very nice and clean for a 50+ years drum shell. There is NO extra holes in drilled in the shell. The Bearing Edges and Re-Rings on both ends are nice and solid. (see pictures 8 thru 12). THE HARDWARE INSTALLED ON THE DRUM SHELL INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING. 1 – 160-6 Set-O-Matic Tom Mount Plate w/ SS2 Key Screw. Very Good Condition with only minor use. The chrome plating finish is very nice and shiny. The Mount Plate slides smoothly on the receiving arm post with no issues. 1 – 1081 internal muffler. Works smoothly and is in good operating condition. 12 – 565 Small Sound King lugs. Each one has been taken apart, cleaned and lubricated w/ clean felts installed. All twelve lugs are in nice clean shape. The chrome plating looks great giving off a nice shine. (see pictures) All threads inside the swivel nuts are in good condition. The mounting screws are in very nice clean condition with good threads. Please examine all the pictures for your consideration and to determine the condition for yourself. I recently found this beauty that had been stored away for over 50 years. The previous owner told me that it was a vintage 60’s Pearl drum set. Since I wasn’t sure, I contacted Pearl Adams Support Team and asked them. This is the conversation I had with them. I’m trying to get information on a vintage Pearl drum set that I recently acquired. I’m not sure how I go about posting anything on this page. I believe it is a 1968-69 kit made in Japan. Can you send us some pictures and we can get some information for you. You can just drag an drop the files in your reply. Your kit appears to be a late 60’s Thunder King and its in great shape! Here is the 1968 catalog so you can see a little more about it. 14″ X 22″ Bass Drum, 5 1/2″ X 14″ Snare, 9″ X 13″ Tom, and 15″ X 16″ Floor Tom. The only hardware included is what you see, 3 floor tom legs, 2 bass drum spurs, and the bass drum tom tom holder. The tom holder on the bass drum doesn’t appear to be original, or at best it was modified. In my opinion, everything else seems to be original (except the heads). According to the catalog info, this color would be a Sparkling Red Pearl. No badges are to be found on the shells, only the lugs have the Pearl logo with “Japan” clearly seen on the back of them. The snare wires also have Pearl stamped into them. These things sound incredible even with just a tap of the finger. These are also for sale locally, so I reserve the right to end this listing early. Is it still a 1 owner kit if the 2nd owner never played it? Very clean early 70s Slingy 3 ply (mahog-poplar-maple) No. Thats a 14×20 kick, 9×13 rack, 16×16 floor, and 5.5×14 snare. The somewhat scrace sparkling black pearl is in pretty good shape. Consult the pictures for a few beauty marks. Chiefly the 13 has a bit of snare rash. The 16 has a few small scratches, and the kick has some long scratches on the bottom of the shell. One of the hoops is also missing a small section of the inlay. Vintage 1970s Super Nice Slingerland Sparkling Silver Drum Set! All original great sounding Slingerland Drums! 1970s era sparkling silver Slingerlands set! These are some of the prettiest drums you will ever see, just great sounding and great looking 1970s sparkling silver Slingerlands from the time when they made some of the all time best looking and best sounding drums ever made in the USA! There are 5 drums: 8×12 (serial # 194230), 9×13 (# 194297) toms, 14×20 (# 195180) single head bass, 14×14 (#195142) floor tom, and 5 1/2 x 14 (#227915) snare. Also includes original Slingerland flat base snare stand. I have not cleaned these in any way and got them from the original owner. He got all 5 drums as a new Slingerland set around 1975-76. He hardly used them and kept them stored. They are really gorgeous and look super shiny with all the chrome and silver wrap in really great shape. They sound great, that big fat rock and roll 1970s Slingerland drums sound, nothing better! The bass drum is really punchy and is interesting it is single sided with a chrome outer hoop on the outside front edge and a kind of silver crinkly covering on the inside of the bass drum shell. This is the way bass the drum was made originally. A little of the crinkly silver stuff has worn off on the bottom of the bass drum and at the seam. There is a thin crack on the inside of the shell of the 8×12 tom as shown in the last pics. It goes around about 1/3 of the inside of the shell but the drum still sounds really great. The sparkling silver wrap on the drums is tight and in just really really great shape, just beautiful. Overall these drums are just breathtaking to look at. Made in Niles, Illinois and just great sounding and great looking vintage Slingerland drums! I pack very carefully. _gsrx_vers_634 GS 6.9.8 (634). Color is Sparkling Red Pearl. This is a matched set from 1965. All drums have been stamped “May 1965″ by Slingerland on the inside of the shells. All drums have clear maple interiors. Drum sizes are: Bass drum 14″ x 22″. Floor Tom 16″ x 16″ Rack Tom 8″ x 12″. Original Red Glass glitter wrap is in excellent condition. All tom rims are c. The rack tom originally had a small hoop clamp mount that I removed so now there are 2 small 1/4 holes located near the seam (see photos). All bearing edges are in perfect condition. These maple interior shells feel heavier to me than similar mahogany versions. Both toms have the adjustable mufflers in perfect condition. Wrap is original and in near mint condition. A few slight scuffs here and there but nothing major. An original Slingerland cymbal mount installed on bass drum. Please note, the toms of this era do not have vent holes / badges. I’ve read that Slingerland resumed installing vents / badges in late’66. No tom mounts, no snare drum. Feel free to contact me with any questions. I’ve had several people ask me about the lack of air vents on the 2 toms. Yeah, Slingerland omitted them for a few years. Rest assured these drums don’t sound or play any differently than a similar drum with an air vent. Remember, the actual sound is coming from the heads. If you want proof of this, just take a little piece of gaffers tape (or duct tape) and cover the vents on your drums and play them. You won’t hear or feel any difference.
