Leedy 5 piece drum kit. They are in very good used condition almost new. The color is wine red. These drums sound great and come with what is seen in the pictures. They are used but they barely have any scuffs on them. There is some bubbling in the wrap. There is not too much but there is a few. Otherwise, these are a very clean almost new set of drums. Here’s a RARE vintage Leedy 14×7 Broadway Parallel model snare. 3 ply shell with white interior. Condition is very good. The wrap is in good shape no pealing or major issues. Also, the seam is tight. I think the original tone control has been replaced. The drum sounds and functions perfectly, with warm and crisp, articulate tone and amazing sensitivity. These don’t come up for sale often. I’ve used this only in my studio since I have owned it for a few years. Make me an offer.

ABOUT MY E-BAY STORE. You are in good experienced, honest, competent hands. ITEM AND LISTING TYPE. During the period 1931 through 1938, Leedy drums were variously called “L&S”. Originally as some of these drums surfaced it was assumed that “L & S” stood for Leedy and Sons. Later it was determined that the “S” stood for Stroup, Cecil Stroup, who under the Leedy moniker prior to 1931, served as chief engineer and designer. The giant, at the time company Conn. Had bought the Leedy name, and later also the Ludwig name. Leedy had over 100 employees expert at crafting drums, and with Stroup set on their own to make the snare drum (and others like it) I’ve listed today. The shell of the drum is fashioned from brass, and coated with a nickel finish. The drum shell is 5″ x 14″in size. The tension rods/drum rods, are hex shaped, with a slit in the middle, requiring a different tuning key than customary. A screw driver, flat headed works to tune the drum as well There are six tube type double ended lugs on the drum, tuneable with the tension rods mentioned, six on top, six on the bottom. The drum is in perfect playable condition, with no dents, rust, nor broken parts. There are areas where the nickel coating has apparently worn off a bit, leaving the brass below exposed to view. If you think about what sounds so good about a NOB snare drum, you’re thinking about the sound that eminates from this drum. Warm, crisp, adaptable, great voice, very musical. You don’t find many of these “L&S, Drummer Equipment, Indeanapolis” drums around. So it’s a bit of a rarity with its own historic niche. It is a great drum, and collectible, obviously. These have a nice chick sound to them when played closed and and a nice washy swinging sound when played open. There is no stamp but possibly manufactured by Leedy or Premier (Premier were formed in 1922). As you may know, Hi-Hat Cymbals today evolved from a “Sock Cymbal”, a pair of similar Cymbals mounted at ground level on a hinged, spring-loaded foot apparatus, hence the name “Sock”. A 1945/46 Leedy 3-piece drum set, professionally refinished in a dark reddish lacquer by a pro painter friend. Nickel hardware on everything. 9×13: No extra holes, all original parts including its ratchet arm mount. 16×16: No extra holes. All original parts including the legs. Neither tom ever had mufflers. 14×24: Four small extra holes where Ludwig gull wing spur brackets had been on the bottom. These were plugged before the refinish and look very good. All original except the hoops, which are thin 7-ply of unknown origin. Comes with a matched pair of nickel hoop clamp spurs. Front head is a vintage calfskin with a port hole. All drums are maple outer ply, which probably means they were a Duco finish originally. They all have some nicks and scratches here and there, nothing too major. All are in round. Bearing edges are likely recut, but with a vintage-style contour that looks just like my’49 Leedy kit, so it’s hard to be sure. They’re flawless on all three drums. All the nickel is in great shape too with very minor wear. All threads are good and all parts move smoothly. Even the tom arm holds solidly. These drums are best described as super warm and round sounding. The kick has plenty of punch and body, the toms are somewhat on the quiet side and very easy to dial in. Terrific 1950s Leedy & Ludwig drum kit – 14x 24 , 9×13, 16×16, Clean inside & out, VGC. The snare in the photos is not currently for sale, bass & 2 toms only. Great resonant old-school sound. The hoops on the toms are not the originals but you can get repros with clips and do it up old-school. Note the hoops on the bass drum, far as I can, are original with intact inlays. Also a few plugged holes on bass drum and two on rack tom. And, not uncommon after 50 years, some glue bleed-thru on bottom of bass drum wrap seam. Not visible when set up. Includes some clip on bass drum legs–newer long ones and old school small ones. Original old school L&L tom mount, mounted on original banana-style rod, not a hoop-mount. Works well for its vintage & design. I have a couple of extra various 24 bass drum heads to throw in. The closer to Philadelphia, the lower the cost.
