Here is a unique customized Legend drumset. It has Keller maple shells, and each drum has a paper label on the interior shell showing a date stamp of May 21, 1996. When I received this drumset, it was an ugly teal blue lacquer finish with a lot of scratches. I took the drums to master drum builder Keven Pinson (formerly of Bearing Edge Drums), and he removed the teal lacquer and applied an exotic wood veneer. It is Birdseye maple, and it is gorgeous. He even added the veneer to both sides of the bass drum hoops. The sizes are (depth x diameter). 5×13 snare with die cast hoops. It has an Ayotte throw off (no extra holes). All rack toms and floor toms are virgin and include the original Legend suspension mounting system. The bass drum is also virgin. It never had a tom mount. The prior owner attempted to repair a small crack in the bass drum shell by drilling two holes about 2.5 apart and putting two bolts through them holding a metal plate together. It was really stupid, so Kevin removed that, filled the two holes, and epoxied the crack (see pic). It is rock solid. There is no structural damage or issue at all, and you dont see anything on the outside of the shell because of the Birdseye veneer covering it. Up for sale is my prized mid 90’s DW Pre-Collectors maple kit with the coveted Keller shells. This kit is in excellent shape overall given it’s age and looks like new. No scratches or damage to the finish, very little pitting on the chrome (you really have to look hard for any), shiny chrome fittings, perfect bearing edges and shells. This kit is the real deal when it comes to early Keller shelled DW kits. It is serial and timbre matched with the pitch note and serial number stamped in each shell but was made before John Good started stamping production dates in the shells. Black and gold DW badges are in excellent shape, the snare drum strainer (which was replaced by a gold model by the original owner) functions perfectly, the Tru tone snares are in excellent shape. You would be hard pressed to find a Keller shelled DW kit in better shape then these. The kit spent all of it’s time in either a studio or in cases in my closet. The grey slate wrap is very rare and one of the coolest wraps I have ever seen. It’s swirl patterns looks like exotic wood grain and I’ve had drummers ask if it is an exotic wood kit. It’s also one of the few kits from this era that are in FAST sized depths. Most of them produced in the mid 90’s were deeper. I have owned several DW kits from the early 90’s through the late 2000’s and this kit sounds as good if not better then any of them. Up for sale is an awesome one off Drumset. This kit started with shells wrapped and cut by Punch Drums. I own another one of their kits and the workmanship is fantastic. Unfortunately they were closing up shop so I bought these shells at that time. I then had a local tech finish them off with hardware. Maple Keller shells.
