We are reluctantly parting with this beautiful vintage Rogers holiday kit in beautiful Pink Champagne Sparkle in the sought after “Headliner” configuration: 8″x12″ tom, 14″x14″ floor tom and 14″x 20″ bass drum. This lovely kit is in very good condition with very minimal overall wear. There is a little bit of rash on the back of the 12 likely from rubbing against a snare. There are also some extra holes in the 12 around the mount, which is under the mount and not viewable from the outside (see pictures). There is also re-ring separation on the 12, but it is firmly glued in place and it would not surprise us if it left the factory this way. The chrome on the kit is in very good shape with less than expected wear. All bearing edges are very nice and untouched from the factory. All the classic Rogers trimmings, including retractable spurs, swiv-o-matic mounted tom holder, knobby floor tom legs and mounts. Internal tone controls are missing on both toms. Snap up this wonderful kit before our fearless leader Chris decides to put it back in his personal arsenal! This is a late 1967/early1968 Rogers Buddy Rich Headliner drum set with a 14×20, 8×12 and 16×16 configuration. Low serial number of 87xxx and high of 91xxx. Tom mounting arm, ride cymbal arm and tilter, bass spurs and floor tom legs are included. Appears in Rogers1967-68 catalog in White Marine Pearl. However, very few have shown up in black strata pearl over the 30 years Ive been watching. In fact, Ive only seen one that was the same configuration and the other had a 9×13 mounted tom-tom. So this is a rare bird. This one is in very good overall condition. However, there are two very thin splits in the wrap. On the floor tom, next to where your right leg would be (a relatively hidden spot if you are a right-handed player), there is one about 6 long with a maximum width of about 1/32. Very difficult to photograph, particularly in that there are brown highlights in the same area and the outside shells on these kits appeared to have been stained brown before the wrap was installed. It’s either that or the adhesive turned brown over the years and I’m not sure which. There is also one down low on the left side of the bass drum that is about 3 long and maybe 1/64 of an inch wide. This one was very, very difficult to photograph. Notwithstanding these wrap issues, the seams are all tight all the way around and the wrap looks very nice overall. The heads are either new or very nearly new Remo coated Ambassadors all around. I didnt have a logo head to contribute to this kit. There is some pitting here and there on the metal work, but overall it is in very nice condition for a 50-year old set of drums. It is likely that it could be cleaned up some more if you felt it worthwhile to do so. I havent had the time as Ive been too busy since I have owned it. During that time, it has been basically a closet queen. I did locate a correct Rogers hoop for the resonant side of the bass drum and installed inlay that I got from Precision Drum Co that was older black strata. It looks good, but you might be able to improve on it with some similar era oyster black pearl (Ludwig name). So the ends are only taped to the hoop, not tacked in. Note, however, that black strata and oyster black are not identical in this era though they can appear to be very close when only using a ½ wide strip. I did also correct the claws on the resonant side to be the long shaft ones used in that era. So read this description carefully, look at the photos carefully and ask any questions you may have. Vintage 60’s Rogers Red Onyx Pearl 12, 16, 22 Dayton Era Headliner Holiday Drum Set (Depth x Diameter, Serial Number). 8×12 mounted tom, 90338. Very good, some small cosmetic blemishes. 16×16 floor tom, 91342. There are some cosmetic blemishes as well as a significant crack in the wrap. 14×22 kick drum, 83261. There are some cosmetic blemishes. The hoops have been re-lacquered and inlays repaired (about 6 of missing inlay was replaced with scraps from same era). A previous owner installed a double tom holder, the bracket of which was stripped out and would not tighten. We removed parts of the defective piece to eliminate rattle, so it’s little more than masking the extra holes at this point. These drums are structurally sound.
