A one of a kind 3-piece Walberg & Auge drum set, made in 1968/69. Sizes are 8×12 rack tom, 15×14 floor tom (14 head size), and 14×22 bass drum. Like most W&A drums of this era, this kit has a mixture of different brands of hardware. The lugs and tom tension rods are classic Gretsch, as are the rail mount and diamond plate. The leg brackets on the floor tom are (non-stamped) Ludwig push-button mounts and the legs are aluminum of unknown origin. The tom rims are late 70s Yamaha replacements, and the floor tom resonant rim is a modern generic of some sort. The mufflers, spurs and spur mounts are Walberg & Auge parts, and the bass drum claws and tension rods are also Walberg & Auge but from a 1930s drum. All chrome hardware except the muffler knobs which are nickel. The shells are 6-ply, I’m assuming they’re Jasper maple/gum but it’s not clear. All three drums are signed and dated inside by the original maker at Walberg & Auge. This kit has been restored a couple of times over the years. The finish is paint and lacquer a la the Gretsch Cameo Coral finish of the 1950s and early 60s, done by hand. The rack tom had a different mount added at some point and two small hole were plugged before refinishing. The bass drum has holes for a cymbal arm mount, which I do not have and don’t know what part it should be. There are some bolts and nuts in these holes currently. There are a couple tiny nicks in the finish on the bass drum and floor tom, and old shell dents visible through the paint up close. Hardware has general minor wear and tear but has been cleaned and everything works solidly. The hoops and inlays are original to the kit, one was cracked all the way through and has been glued back together but the old crack is visible, see photos. All bearing edges are original. The tom edges are excellent and the bass drum edges have some small nicks as shown. All shells are in round and they tune up easily. For hundreds more drum parts! These drums were handmade in Japan, are in great condition, and sound awesome. The shells and hardware on all of the drums are in great condition. Tama Starclassic Maple 7 Piece Drum Set. These drums are in excellent condition for their age and it shows. The Evans heads on the toms have tons of life left. The snare drum head is used but still has some life left in it. The hardware on all of the drums is really nice. The chrome shines very well. The only cosmetic detail I would mention is that the 8 tom is about a half-shade lighter in color than the rest of the toms. I believe it was ordered at a later date to match the rest of the set because the serial number of the 8 is much different from the other drums which have similar serial numbers. The other toms seem to have a more wood-grain near the surface but it is still Coral Reef Blue by production standards. Most people probably wouldn’t even notice when looking at the set. Tama Starcast Die cast hoops on all toms. Tama Starcast mounts on all toms. This is really a killer kit. I bought this new in 2001 direct from Mapex. It’s a very rare color that did not sell well when it came out, so they discontinued the color after one year, but it is absolutely beautiful. I have had this in cases, in storage, for the last 3 years and figured if that’s all I was going to play it, I needed to sell it off. I have played it at several gigs over the years and it sounds killer with the all-Maple shells. It includes; 22×18″ kick, 8″, 10″, 12″ rack toms and 14″ & 16″ mounted floor toms. Like I said, this has been in cases in storage for years and is in pristine condition. No dents, chips, etc. The cover photo is stock from the internet. The others are mine from storage.
