I wish I could say that I know a lot about this drum set. The set was used by presumably some teenager for a couple of years to annoy their parents until they finally put them in storage. I’ve done a little research on this set. The color is Marine Pearl or White Pearl. I hope I’m right about that. It’s a white sparkly color. The original Gretsch round badge design lasted from the company’s inception in 1883 until 1971. I don’t have an accurate date of the set, but looking at the online resources, I can make an educated guess from 1954 to 1964. The small tom tom and hi hat have the round badge with the tack in the middle, the snare is tackless while the bass has no badge. The tom tom is 13 x 10, the snare is 14 x 6, the floor tom is 16 x 16, and the bass drum is 22″ x 16″. The set does have some wear and tear on it and some rust spots. The covering where it wraps around is peeling off of the floor tom and the small tom tom and trim pieces and the covering are peeling off of the bass drum. The bass drum has a crack in the covering as shown in the pics. The wood looks fine. The snare drum looks whiter than the rest of the set, so I don’t know if that means anything like the snare is newer or was better taken care of to prevent fading. The last picture shows all the hardware thats going with it. The snare drum stand is not original and is fairly rusty, so it’s not really worth sending. I just used it for pics. The bass and floor tom come with the legs, the small tom is held up by the bracket on the bass and works good. I also have some cymbals that and extra stuff that will come with the set that probably aren’t original to the set, but that and some extra stuff is what I will be sending with the set. Vintage Gretsch 60’s 50’s Custom Shell 3pc Drum Set kit. This kit is a rewrap. Some more info on condition and build. 1 bass and tom tom mounts hardware were changed to rogers mounts. 2 because it is a rewrap no badges and interior gretsch paper tags. 3 the 13 + 16 are 50’s 3 ply grestch shells with silver sealer and the bass is 60’s 6ply gretsch with silver sealer. 4 the inside lug screws replaced to non original gretsch but the lugs are still gretsch. 5 the floor tom has some splitting on the surface of the gretsch silver sealer shell and ply splitting on bearing edges (seems fine but you may want to re-glue due to this splitting on bearing edge on 16). 6some normal wear and use (see pictures for condition)\. 7 hoops not original on bass and toms. 8 some tension rods on floor tom and 13 not original gretsch (bass drum they are original still). 9 some other original parts like dampener removed etc. PLEASE SEE PICTURES (can send more by request). Up for sale is a nice, but extremely rare white marine pearl Sonor kit from the 50’s. I bought the set about 13 years ago from a shop in Germany and have kept them home in cases since. Please note that the drum sizes are metric so standard heads will not fit. However, a standard head will fit and is included on the floor tom. The other drums include calf skin heads including the original logo head on the bass drum. Overall I think this kit is in great shape for its age and these drums are extremely rare. The most common issue I see is that the wrap seems to crack on the bass drums (see photos) All of the 50’s kits I have owned have this issue and I think its mostly due to the very thin beach shell sonor developed in the 50’s. I also think that the thin beach shell drums are the best sounding drums made. Tom – Overall this drum is in good shape with some chrome pitting and a few scuff marks on the wrap, but appears to be all original. Floor tom – Overall this drum is in good shape with some chrome pitting and a few scuff marks on the wrap, but appears to be all original. Bass drum – The silver paint on the hoops has been repainted (not by me). Some cracks in the wrap and the muffler is missing from the bottom (there are two and the second is on the top side). Wing screws which hold the spurs and the cymbal arm are not original but work perfectly. Bass Drum – 54mm or 21 3/16. Floor Tom – 38mm or 15″ (a standard 15″ head will fit and is included). Looks like they flipped the drum upside down and re-drilled for legs. 14×20= 3-ply shell, Ludwig bass drum bracket. Holes filled in for the rail and spurs. Has Slingerland spurs with a hole under each that has been filled and wmp applied to cover(pic12). 8 generic claws and tension rods (4 on each side towards the bottom). Kick side hoop is steel. The current owner bought these at the Drum Center of Indianapolis in the early 90’s and played them for a couple of years and then put them in the closet for the last 20 years. All 3 have been recovered and who ever did it did one of the best jobs I’ve ever seen in my 30 years of dealing with drums. I think they were re-done in the late 60’s or early 70’s as they have some fade to them (pic7). They look like they might of been recovered by the factory but who knows. Just a great players kit!
