A one of a kind 3-piece Walberg & Auge drum set, made in 1968/69. Sizes are 8×12 rack tom, 15×14 floor tom (14 head size), and 14×22 bass drum. Like most W&A drums of this era, this kit has a mixture of different brands of hardware. The lugs and tom tension rods are classic Gretsch, as are the rail mount and diamond plate. The leg brackets on the floor tom are (non-stamped) Ludwig push-button mounts and the legs are aluminum of unknown origin. The tom rims are late 70s Yamaha replacements, and the floor tom resonant rim is a modern generic of some sort. The mufflers, spurs and spur mounts are Walberg & Auge parts, and the bass drum claws and tension rods are also Walberg & Auge but from a 1930s drum. All chrome hardware except the muffler knobs which are nickel. The shells are 6-ply, I’m assuming they’re Jasper maple/gum but it’s not clear. All three drums are signed and dated inside by the original maker at Walberg & Auge. This kit has been restored a couple of times over the years. The finish is paint and lacquer a la the Gretsch Cameo Coral finish of the 1950s and early 60s, done by hand. The rack tom had a different mount added at some point and two small hole were plugged before refinishing. The bass drum has holes for a cymbal arm mount, which I do not have and don’t know what part it should be. There are some bolts and nuts in these holes currently. There are a couple tiny nicks in the finish on the bass drum and floor tom, and old shell dents visible through the paint up close. Hardware has general minor wear and tear but has been cleaned and everything works solidly. The hoops and inlays are original to the kit, one was cracked all the way through and has been glued back together but the old crack is visible, see photos. All bearing edges are original. The tom edges are excellent and the bass drum edges have some small nicks as shown. All shells are in round and they tune up easily. For hundreds more drum parts! This Ludwig Downbeat drum set boasts a beautiful black oyster pearl finish with a 12-inch mounted tom, 14-inch floor tom, and a 20-inch bass drum. Some minor wrap peel under bass drum not noticeable when set up I did superglue it back down see pix. Other than that it looks and sounds great has general wear from use. NOT A MUSEUM PIECE. BASS HEAD IS NOW PORTED AND CLEAR GORILLA Tape USED ON BOTTOM OF BASS TO HOLD LIFTING WRAP NOT PICTURED AGAIN ONE MORE TIME THIS IS NOT A MUSEUM PIECE ITS A VERY NICE LOOKING PLAYERS KIT LOOK AT PIX SEE FOR YOURSELF. I put repro badges on it. I did NOT rewrap this came with anniversary badges that I removed one 12 tom has a hole with no badge. Bass drum had some wrap lifting. I superglued it down. I added clear gorilla tape to hold it down also ported the bass head neither is pictured. It’s not perfect but is not seen.
