Made in Niles, Illinois. 14×26 and 10×14 born together in early 1970’s and all original except heads and a few tension rods. 16×18 and 16×16 a few years older, original except nice polyurethane re-finish, heads, and a few tension rods. Beautiful shells, with no extra holes or damage other than minor nicks. Chrome generally very good condition, but some small scratches and pitting/rust spots, especially on floor tom legs. Original muffle tone controls not shown in photos, but will be included. All heads used, but still very usable, including coated Remo Powerstroke3 bass batter head, coated Remo Emperor tom batter heads, and Remo Ambassador resonant heads. Will pack very carefully. Early 70s Ludwig Superclassic Drum Set 70/71. The set is in super condition all around, original wrap no extra holes and modifications. Very little wear to the wrap , chrome work has the usual age related wear n tear.. Clear interiors all round.. Three ply maple shells with reinforcing hoops. The sizes are 20 x 14 and 16 x 16. The bass drum is missing all of it’s T-rods & claws, spurs and collet noses. The 16 x 16 floor tom is missing legs, knobbie units and a hoop. Both drums are in very good structural condition, no extra holes. However, as you can see, both drums have finish cracks. The edges, interiors and chrome, are all very good condition. There is a 26 x 14 bass drum, 14 x 10 rack tom, 16 x 16 and 18 x 16 floor toms. There are no extra holes or modifications. The 26, 14 and 18 have natural maple 3-ply interiors, the 16 has a 3-ply granitone interior. The bass drum is missing a hoop, but does come with all 20 T-rods and claws. The 14 and 18 have non original bottom hoops and two of the legs on the 16 are not original. The 14 and 16 have dual factory mufflers. The shells are all in round and are the desirable 3-ply. Bearing edges, interiors and chrome are all in excellent condition. The wrap is very nice, throughout, with no cracks, splits, gouges or major scratches. There is some minor rash on top of the bass drum from toms making contact. Overall, this is a very nice set that is rock solid, with nothing stripped or broken. Factory early 70s bop kit. Bass drum is NOT a floor tom conversion. This is the early 70s era where they had the diamond plate on the 12 and the goofy rail mount with the two sized ends to fit it. At some point someone took that thing off the bass drum (and just left the original rail) and drilled the 12 for a slingerland Mount. They utilized the bottom diamond plate hole and drilled two holes for the wider slingerland set o matic plate as well as a larger center hole. They must have used a stand mount tho because the bass drum was not modified (thank god). Im including a Gretsch diamond plate and L arm that works with the current rail mount if you like that set up otherwise the W&A spade set up currently installed is better in my opinion. Either way you get both options. Personally I think the classic W & A plate and rail looks better and it covers the 3 extra holes. The long spade works great, solid for playing, and is easy to adjust. The top hole in the W&A diamond plate does not line up with the original gretsch diamond hole exactly, so Im just utilizing the bottom and side 3 holessimilar to how they had the slingerland mount on there before. Its a little bit of a bummer but in this case its minor compared to the mods that could have been done to the other two drums. To be clear, the rail mount on the bass drum is original to the drum and the bass drum has not NOT been modified. At any rate, the 12 is obviously the least valuable and easiest to replace if you want to try to make the kit perfect. As is it works perfectly and looks great. The 18 and 14 are obviously the most important and they are beautiful. A couple other Notable issues. 12 has some pretty good snare rash dug past the clear coat and into the shell. Its on the exact back of the drum when the kit is set up. Only the player see it. Other than that the finish has aged pretty evenly and beautifully on all the drums with the 12 showing the most checking. Assuming it was taken out and played more than the others hence coming up with a more solid mounting solution. Bass hoops are new. Only had one original when it came to me. That one original bass hoop can be included in the sale if youd like. Bass Spurs and wing screws are the new Gretsch/Maxwell reproductions. Everything else is correct/factory and nothing is missing including all washers and tension rods. Edges are awesome on all drums. The 12 and 14 both have an extremely minor ding in the bottom edge but does not affect the tuning whatsoever. If you wanted to dab a dab of wood filler in each and lightly sand it it to be flush would be very simple to do. I chose to leave it original and let the new owner decide. Heads spin freely on all drums. No issues with the structural integrity of any of the drums or tuning/roundness whatsoever. Prat muffler is present on bass and functions. Felt is a little dirty.
