Vintage Slingerland 3 piece red satin flame drum kit. 20″ kick, 12″ rack tom, and the highly coveted 14 floor tom. I got this a while back for a project that never came together, so it needs to move. Shells are clear, and stamped November 1965 (toms also stamped with the 15th). Kick drum has black and brass Niles badge; toms have no badges, as is standard for this era. This is a player’s kit – the wrap shows lots of scuffs, marks, dings, and spots, but still looks great from a short distance (or would be a great candidate for a recover, as satin flame removes pretty easily). Chrome parts are in nice shape, though some of the leg wing bolts and bass drum T rods have some flaking to the chrome. All parts are correct and complete – 12″ and 14″ have their tone controls and chrome over brass hoops. Kick drum has new red satin flame inlays (a tad darker, but a good match), and the black wood has been repainted. One hoop is a bit out of round, and looks to have been repaired at one point; still works fine. Inside of drum I find one split in the wood at one lug bolt, shown in close up, that appears stable. Batter heads are all new, and have less than an hour or two of play. Kick drum batter head has had a repro period correct Slingerland logo applied. Overall a very cool little vintage kit, ready to play. I have posted 24 photos showing lots of detail – be sure to scroll down to see them all.
